Rosenstein Expected To Leave Mid-March
DOJ OFFICIAL: DEPUTY ATTY. GEN. ROD ROSENSTEIN EXPECTED TO LEAVE DEPT. OF JUSTICE IN MID-MARCH
(CNN) – Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to step down from the department of justice around the middle of next month.
That’s according to a DOJ official.
Rosenstein has had oversight of the Russia investigation and the 2017 appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller since then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself.
He’s also been a frequent target of president Trump’s.
It’s been reported that Rosenstein was planning to resign after Bill Barr was confirmed as the new Attorney General, which happened last Thursday.
Rosenstein’s departure in march could be another sign Mueller’s investigation is wrapping up.
The next Deputy Attorney General could be formally announced as early as this week.
Multiple sources say Deputy Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Rosen is the top candidate to be Barr’s deputy.
