Courtney Lockhart Back in Court to Get Off Death Row

An East Alabama killer is asking the court to take him off death row.

Courtney Lockhart was sentenced to death for the kidnap and murder of Auburn University student Lauren Burk in 2008.

He’s back in a Lee County Courtroom.

The original jury recommended life without parole.

But, Lockhart’s attorney argues the judge’s decision to overrule the jury and sentence Lockhart to death was unconstitutional.

Lockhart’s attorney Aaron Katz claims the jury did not hear all of the evidence and might have made a different decision if they had known Lockhart served in the military and suffers PTSD.

Katz promises to take the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary.
