Scholar Athlete: Brookstone Girl’s Basketball, Marianna Branch
Marianna Branch plays an integral role on the Brookstone girl’s basketball team and she’s only a sophomore.
She is leading the team in scoring, but now has to take on a new role.
“They were throwing it in and so I caught it and started like turning too fast to dribble and it just popped out and when I got to the bench I was talking to my friend Sara and I was like ‘I don’t want to be out for the season, I don’t want to be out for the season’,” says Brookstone sophomore shooting guard Marianna Branch.
Marianna dislocated her knee cap earlier in the season for the third time and will have to undergo a season ended surgery.
“It’s really hard, but I’ve kind of gotten over that and I’m keeping stats,” says Branch.
“She does so many things that are really key to success on the basketball floor, so desperately missed would be an understatement,” says Brookstone girl’s head basketball coach Jay Sparks.
Taking the bad news in stride, Marianna is focused on helping her team succeed from the sidelines and also to focus on her school work.
“I’m in all honors and then AP computer science principles and AP U.S. history except for math, I’m not in honors math,” says Branch.
She holds a 4.4 GPA and is involved in the Red Kettle club and is the co-president for Cuts for a Cure club.
“My aunt had breast cancer, so that is kind of why I did it the first time and we put on this event for cutting hair to give to cancer for wigs,” says Branch.
Congratulations to Marianna Branch of Brookstone school, this week’s WLTZ scholar athelte.
