21 Savage Arrested By ICE
ICE says he's been in the U.S. illegally for years
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken Grammy nominated rapper 21 Savage into custody.
ICE says the rapper, whose real name is Shayaabin Abraham-Joseph, is a United Kingdom resident who lives illegally in the U.S.
The rapper has long said he’s from Atlanta.
But ICE says he moved to the U.S. as a teen and his entire public persona is fake.
He was taken into custody in a sting operation early Sunday in metro-Atlanta.
ICE says he entered the U.S. legally in 2005, but became illegal when he did not leave the U.S. when his visa expired the next year.
ICE notes in addition to violating federal immigration law, he was convicted on felony drug charges in 2014.
Removal proceedings are now underway.
