The Columbus State University baseball team was selected third in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason national poll, released Tuesday.
The poll was voted on by the NCBWA, with the Cougars totaling 432 points overall.
Reigning National Champion Augustana (461) picked up 12 first place votes and is the preseason favorite. Tampa (459) grabbed six first place votes and is second while UC San Diego (398) took one lone first place vote to grab the fourth spot. Florida Southern (379) rounded out the top five.
Columbus State brings back six of their nine positional regulars from the 2018 team that reached the national championship game, as well as pitcher Kolton Ingram who earned preseason All-American honors Tuesday.
Ingram was a first team all-selection after finishing the 2018 season with a 14-3 record with a 2.18 ERA and 150 strikeouts. Ingram was named to the All-PBC first team, three All-Southeast Region first teams and also became the 43rd All-American in CSU program history.
The Cougars open up the 2019 season this Friday at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field to take on West Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
