A Disabled Young Lady In Opelika, Alabama In Urgent Need of Help
There is no handicapped ramp where they rent, something they have been fighting for since they moved here.
Arva Upshur has her hands full helping her disabled daughter Mari up and down the stairs at their Opelika Mobile home.
They both have medical issues but 18 year old Mari has been disabled since birth.
To multiply the problems there is no handicapped ramp here where they rent, something they have been fighting for since they moved here about a month ago.
To make matters worse rain makes the driveway a muddy mess with soggy ruts so deep getting to and from the car is a risky proposition.
Mari is a positive person which helped her land a job as a greeter at wallmart.
But lately she’s been busting her knuckles while crawling up and down the stairs on the way to and from work and since there’s no ramp she has to crawl on the ground for stability so she arrives at work wet when it rains.
There is just enough money for rent and now the mom is pleading for help with a ramp for her daughter so she can more easily get in and out of their Opelika home.
If you are a contractor in Opelika and would like to donate some time effort and material to build a ramp please contact me here at the station.
I can also help as a laborer during the construction process.
