Pope Tells Abusers To Surrender To Justice
POPE FRANCIS TELLS THOSE WHO ABUSE MINORS TURN THEMSELVES IN TO AUTHORITIES AND “PREPARE FOR DIVINE JUSTICE.”
(CNN) – In the wake of the sex abuse crisis within the U.S. Catholic church, the Pope spoke out forcefully against clergy members accused of inappropriate behavior.
Pope Francis said Friday that those who abuse minors should turn themselves in to authorities and should “prepare for divine justice.”
The pontiff encouraged survivors to continue speaking out.
He also thanked the media for shining a light on the crisis.
Francis is under increasing pressure to take action, following multiple revelations of abuse and cover-ups.
The most recent came earlier this week, when the Illinois authorities claimed the state’s six dioceses failed to disclose accusations of sexual abuse against at least 500 priests and clergy members.
The Pope has called a global meeting of bishops at the Vatican in February to discuss sexual abuse.
