House GOP Arm Hacked During 2018 Midterms
HOUSE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN ARM HACKED DURING 2018 MIDTERMS
(CNN) – The emails of top officials at the campaign arm for House Republicans were stolen during the 2018 midterm election cycle.
A Republican official with knowledge of the intrusion tells CNN that the hack was discovered by a vendor in April after
emails from four senior aides at the National Republican Congressional committee were surveilled for several months.
An internal investigation was initiated and the FBI was alerted.
Politico reports that senior House Republicans, including speaker Paul Ryan and house majority leader Kevin McCarthy were not informed of the hack until Politico contacted the NRCC on Monday.
House Republicans ultimately lost around 40 seats in last month’s election, losing their majority to Democrats.
