Columbus Korean War Soldier Laid To Rest On Fort Benning

SFC Streetman was 20 years old in 1950 when he was killed guarding the Kum River line near Taejon, South Korea.

The family of a soldier who died in the Korean War finally able to pay their respects at his military funeral.

This weekend’s funeral for Columbus native James Silas Streetman Junior took place at the main cemetery on Fort Benning with full military honors.

Streetman was 20 years old when he was killed guarding the Kum river line near Taejon, South Korea.

His remains weren’t identified at first.

But then the recent agreement to return remains from Korea lead to the DNA work that made the identification possible.

James Streetman’s sister says she’s glad to finally have his remains home and buried in the Georgia dirt.
