El Chapo Jury Selection Set for Next Week

JURY SELECTION SET FOR NEXT WEEK IN CASE AGAINST MEXICAN DRUG LORD JOAQUIN "EL CHAPO" GUZMAN

(CNN) – Jury selection for Mexican drug lord “El Chapo” is set to begin next week.

The judge overseeing the case against Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman denied a request to delay the trial.

Jury selection is expected to proceed as scheduled for Monday morning in New York.

Opening statements should begin the following week.

Guzman has repeatedly broken out of prison.

He was re-captured in 2016 and later extradited to the U.S. to stand trial on federal charges.

Guzman has pleaded not guilty to a string of crimes including the distribution of narcotics and conspiring to murder his rivals.
