Scholar Athlete of the Week: Northside Softball, Mary Beth Cahalan

NORTHSIDE'S MARY BETH CAHALAN HAS HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS ON THE DIAMOND AND IN THE CLASSROOM

The Northside softball team has won their region championship four years in a row, claimed a State Title last year and this year they made it back to the elite eight. Mary Beth Cahalan, a leading hitter on their team credits the hard work in the off season for all of their success.

“We’ve worked really, really hard this year,” Says Northside Junior Catcher, Mary Beth Catalan. “We’ve spent a lot of time in the off season working in the weight room, just getting stronger and really bonding. Waking up at five in the morning is not something you want to do during the week, but it shows our commitment to the team.”

Mary Beth’s success on the diamond has carried over to the classroom. She has a 4.3 GPA while being dual enrolled at Columbus State University.

“Noticing that the student comes before athlete is really important even if it means staying up late and working on homework”

After high school she wants to study Pre-Med at Mercer and work on becoming a physical therapist.

“I’ve just always been passionate about Science and Math and those subjects come easier to me than English and History, so I feel that if I went the [Pre-Med] route, I would be successful”

Congratulations Mary Beth Cahalan WLTZ’s Scholar Athlete of the Week!
