DRUG-RESISTANT SALMONELLA FROM CHICKEN SICKENS NEARLY 100
San Jose, CA (KTVU) – Here’s a heads up from the CDC.
A strain of salmonella that’s resistant to multiple antibiotics is making people ill in dozens of states.
The CDC says at least 92 people in 29 states were infected with the salmonella strain.
The people became ill after they came into contact with several different raw chicken products.
The products include pet food, chicken pieces, ground pieces and whole chickens.
The bacteria has also been found in live chickens.
Hospitals treated 21-people sickened by this salmonella strain.
No deaths have been reported.
Lab tests have not yet been able to identify a common supplier or source of the affected chicken.
