Game of the Week: Community Christian @ Calvary Christian
THE CALVARY CHRISTIAN KNIGHTS LOOK TO MAKE A STATEMENT AS THEY WELCOME IN THE BACK-TO-BACK GICAA STATE CHAMPIONS
The Calvary Christian Knights have spent the majority of their season on the road, but they have a 5-2 record as they welcome in Community Christian who has won the GICAA State Title the past two years.
“Right now we’re on a 3 game winning streak and if we can beat [Community Christian] this week that will be a four game winning streak and we just have two more regular season games,” Says Calvary Christian Head Coach, Brian Osborne. “We’ll be riding high so our guys really want to have that momentum going into the playoffs.”
In order for Calvary Christian to gain that momentum they have to take down a fast and physical offense.
“They have a good versatile Quarterback that can throw it and run it,” Says Calvary Christian Senior Wide Receiver and Free Safety, Aaron Christopher. “They have speed on the outside and we have to contain those areas, if we do that we should be good.”
“If we execute and stick to our technique there’s nothing that we can’t handle or dominate as a team,” Said Calvary Christian Senior Defensive End and Offensive Guard, Jacob Evangelista.
With the playoffs around the corner these two teams are guaranteed to meet in the first round of the playoffs, which makes Friday night all that more important.
“It will have a huge mental impact on our team. If we can keep the game closer, or if we happen to win we’ll be very happy going into the playoffs knowing that we have a great chance of advancing come playoff time,” Says Osborne.
“It’s a statement game to let them know we’re not a pushover, we’re not the same team from the past two years. [We’re] a different Calvary,” Said Christopher.
“It’s personal for a lot us,” says Evangelista. “Of course we want momentum going into the playoffs, but also we need to say something to our fans and even to our own team that we’re not some sort of pushovers that are going to be average.”
Kickoff is set for 8 pm eastern time from Calvary Christian School.
