Auburn Football Focused On Cleaning Up the Run Game As They Prepare for Alabama State
THE TIGERS EXPRESSED THEIR EXCITEMENT IN TODAY'S PRESS CONFERENCE FOR THEIR FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON THIS SATURDAY
Right off the top in Auburn’s weekly press conference head coach Gus Malzahn announced that former Central Red devil John Broussard Jr. has left the team to pursue other things, but on a positive note wide outs Will Hastings and Eli Stove have been released to practice.
The passing game is not where Auburn’s focus is this week though.
Malzahn made it clear that the run game needs to improve this week as the Tigers prepare to take on Alabama State.
“I think we averaged 3.3 yards per carry and when we are at our best it is more than that and so we’ve got to do better in that, but at the same time the advantage we have is we played against a big time defensive front, so now we kind of know and we have some areas we can get better in,” says Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn.
Junior Kam Martin led the way for the running back’s on Saturday, followed behind him was redshirt freshman JaTarvious Whitlow.
“Man, Boobie’s a baller. You know that was his first college game. He is just going to get better. I feel like both of us, we are going to be a great 1-2 punch. Boobie brings a lot of thunder and you know I feel like I’m going to bring a lot of lighting to the game,” says Auburn junior running back Kam Martin.
Malzahn also said we can expect to see some of those freshman getting more and more playing time as the season progresses.
