Vatican Remove Remarks About Psychiatry, Gay Children
VATICAN REMOVES POPE'S REMARKS ABOUT PSYCHIATRY AND GAY CHILDREN IN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT
(CNN) – The Vatican has removed a section from the transcript of Pope Francis’ Sunday remarks on the topic of gay children.
The pontiff was asked what he would say to a father who’s child is gay.
The Pope suggested prayer and said parents should not condemn gay children.
However, he also said that psychiatry might have a role to play.
The reference to psychiatry was removed from the official transcript.
A Vatican spokeswoman said the pope did not mean to suggest that homosexuality is a mental illness.
She said the Vatican took the remark out of the transcript to avoid that inference.
