Snapchat Prompts FBI Investigation of Columbus Man
Douglas Porter Charged with 5 Counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child
A Columbus man’s Snapchat account appeared on the radar of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The federal investigation involves a network of people trading and sharing child pornography both video and still photographs.
Testimony in the child sexual exploitation case was so graphic you could hear audible gasps from the courtroom gallery as a Columbus Police Detective described how sexual predators use the popular social media app Snapchat to prey on children.
It was a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that led police to Douglas Porter who was making his first court appearance for five counts of sexual exploitation of a child.
Porter was posing on Snapchat as a 14 year old male to lure underage children.
According to court testimony, Porter was also obtaining and viewing child pornography with a large group of suspects using the same social media app, all of whom are now part of a massive federal investigation.
When FBI agents moved in on his East Columbus home this past Tuesday they recovered at least 10 cell phones and a laptop containing numerous still images and video of children being abused.
A Police Investigator said the children featured in the videos are under ten , one as young as a year old having sex with an adult male.
The Detective’s testimony drew loud gasps from spectators.
Just prior to Porter’s arrest, at least one individual offered to bring the suspect to New York to have sex with a child.
Douglas Porter’s court appointed defense attorney argued for bond stating he had no previous record, cooperated with police and wasn’t considered a flight risk.
Judge Julius Hunter denied the motion noting the horrific nature of the videos.
Porter is currently detained in the Muscogee County Jail without bond and police tell First News more charges are likely.
