Hollywood Minute: Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Today’s entertainment news ranges from a movie clue to a musical mystery. Here’s David Daniel with the Hollywood Minute.

“So let me do the plan, and that way, it might be really good.”

There seems to be a plan for the next “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, after most of its stars were — spoiler! — reduced to dust in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Responding to a twitter question, writer/director James Gunn confirmed “Guardians 3” will take place after the Marvel universe-shaking events of “Infinity War.” “Guardians 3” is due out in 2020. The sequel to “Infinity War,” in 2019.

“The bar is set pretty high.”

Sam Mendes is going back to his roots. The director is set to make the World War I film “1917” for Steven Spielberg’s Amblin partners. Spielberg worked closely with Mendes on his first film, “American Beauty,” which won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and Director for Mendes.

(singing) “I like to be in America — okay by me in America!”

Speaking of Oscars, “West Side Story” is back! The beloved musical, which won 10 Academy Awards, returns for a special engagement in more than 600 U.S. theaters on Sunday, June 24th, and Wednesday, June 27th.

In Hollywood, I’m David Daniel.
