William Meadows Shot While Sitting in His Own Garage

The Funeral for a Columbus man shot and killed while sitting in his garage is planned for this weekend.

A source with first hand knowledge of the case say police were tipped off to troublemakers riding around the neighborhood randomly shooting out car windows and they likely didn’t know William Meadows was hit when they fled the scene.

Police are still looking for a suspect vehicle described as a late model KIA Soul, light in color in connection with the murder of William Meadows.

The still photos taken from surveillance video at the time of the shooting which shows the KIA traveling up and down Alta Vista Drive.

Detectives say the killer was randomly firing a pistol.

The 74 year old victim was sitting in his own car parked in his garage when a bullet struck him from behind killing him instantly.

It wasn’t until the next day, after shots were fired that friends discovered Meadows slumped over his wheel.

Since then the Columbus Homicide Unit has been searching and still pleading with the public, asking anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle to come forward.

William Meadows, a father , grandfather and Vietnam Veteran will be laid to rest this weekend at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City.
