Scholar Athlete: Glenwood School Baseball/Basketball, Brooks Barton
Brooks Barton makes being a 2 time state champion in baseball and basketball and maintaining a 4.3 GPA look effortless.
“If you focus in school and kind of separate the two then it’s pretty easy,” says Glenwood school junior Brooks Barton.
As a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, he’s learned that balance is just one of the many traits it takes to excel on and off the field.
“You definitely have to work at both, like you have to have a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the baseball field in order to achieve what you want to get,” says Barton.
At Tim Fanning Field, the outfield wall is lined with state championships dating back to 1973. Most recently being back to back state wins in 2016 and 2017. For Brooks, seeing the wall everyday at practice is what drives him.
“It definitely motivates me, being that we did win a state championship last year and to get another one of those this year would be great,” says Barton.
As a junior, Brooks is still undecided on whether he will pursue baseball in college, but plans on majoring in dentistry. Congratulations to Brooks Barton of Glenwood school, this week’s WLTZ scholar athlete.
