Pope Francis Asks for Forgiveness
THE POPE ADMITS "GRAVE ERRORS" AND ASKS FOR FORGIVENESS IN THE CHILE SEX ABUSE SCANDAL
(CNN) – Pope Francis is admitting to what he calls “grave errors” in handling a sexual abuse scandal in Chile.
In a letter Wednesday to the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Chile, the pontiff asks for forgiveness from all those he offended.
The letter follows a report detailing interviews with 64 people affected by the abuse.
Pope Francis added that he may summon Chilean bishops to Rome to speak with them about his conclusions.
The pope visited Chile in January, where he supported a bishop he appointed.
That bishop is accused of covering up sexual abuse by a priest convicted of pedophilia in 2011.
