CSU’s Avram Named PBC Player of the Week

Columbus State University men’s tennis player Matei Avram was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.

It’s the second straight week with the league honor after Zach Whaanga garnered the award last week.

Avram was 5-1 on the week in matches against No. 5 Valdosta State, No. 2 Barry and Georgia Southwestern. The sophomore won singles matches at the third, fourth and fifth positions, while winning two of three matches with Whaanga at second doubles.

Avram is 18-2 on the season, sporting 9-1 records in both singles and doubles play.

Overall, the Cougars are 8-2 with a perfect 3-0 record in the PBC. Columbus State will be at home again on Thursday to take on Southern Indiana. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
