In Your Health Minute, patients with HIV could soon replace their HIV daily medications with a once a week pill.

Scientists at MIT developed a capsule that releases a week’s worth of drugs in a single dose.

The capsule could make it easier for patients to stick to their dosing schedules and help prevent infection in people at high risk of HIV exposure.

The researchers are working on adapting this technology to other diseases that could benefit from weekly drug dosing.

Researchers calculated going from a daily to a weekly dose could improve the efficacy of HIV preventative treatments by 20-percent.
