California Legalizes Recreational Marijuana
POT STORES ARE NOW ALLOWED TO OPEN FOR RECREATIONAL USERS IN CALIFORNIA IN AREAS THAT HAVE LICENSED THEM
Los Angeles, CA (KMEX) – Monday marks the first day of legal marijuana sales in California for recreational users.
Voters decided to legalize pot for adults 21 and over back in 2016.
But until now, recreational users had no way to buy it lawfully in the state.
Nearly 100 recreational marijuana stores now have the necessary permits to open for business.
Local governments can write their own regulations limiting or outlawing sales of the drug.
Some areas, like Los Angeles still don’t have licensing procedures in place for pot shops.
Officials warn you can be arrested for driving while high.
It’s also illegal to use marijuana while riding in a vehicle as a passenger.
Employers in California area are still allowed to drug test employees.
They can fire people who test positive for marijuana.
