U2 HAS 2017'S #1 TOUR
Who had the year’s top-grossing tour? Which studio dominated the box office? And which movie do online critics think was the year’s best? David Daniel has the answers in today’s Hollywood Minute.
U2 is #1! The Irish rockers’ “Joshua Tree” 30th anniversary tour racked up $316 million in ticket sales this year. The concert industry trade publication Pollstar says that was the top grossing tour of 2017.
Critics groups love “Get Out!” with the latest raves coming from the online Film Critics Society that’s made up of internet-based critics from 22 countries. They named “Get Out” best picture of the year and also honored Jordan Peele for his original screenplay.
It’s unclear whether “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will make enough money before New Year’s Day to take the 2017 box office crown from “Beauty and the Beast,” but one thing’s for sure: Disney, which released both movies, has retained its title of top grossing domestic studio — despite releasing fewer movies than other big Hollywood studios.
In Hollywood, I’m David Daniel.
