EL CHAPO'S ATTORNEYS ASK JUDGE TO DELAY HIS TRIAL
(CNN) – The Mexican drug kingpin known as “El Chapo” is trying to postpone his trial.
Attorneys for Joaquin Guzman are asking a federal judge to push the trial back to August or September.
They say they can not prepare his defense by April, when the trial is scheduled to start.
El Chapo is facing a 17-count indictment in New York, related to his alleged leadership the infamous Sinaloa drug cartel.
He is also known for breaking out of jail twice in Mexico, before his final arrest and extradition to the U.S.
Guzman has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
