The Lady Tigers are the Team to Beat This Year

The stinging feeling of losing the state title by one point hangs over the heads of the Carver women’s basketball players who were a part of it. It’s also the motivating factor that has led them to a 13-0 start to the season.

“We just want to do better than we did last year. We just want to win another region if possible and really just take it one game at a time. As long as we can win the next game we will get that much closer to our ultimate goal,” says Carver women’s basketball head coach Anson Hundley.

Much of their success is due to the chemistry on the team.

“It is just there because we all play AAU together for years now so it’s just there,” says Carver sophomore center Olivia Cochran.

Up next for the Lady Tigers is the Ball-N-Prep Christmas tournament December 28th. A short four days off before the toughest part of the season so far.

“There is going to be some strong teams down there, but we consider ourselves a strong team too so we are going to come with everything we’ve got and hopefully we can get a win,” says coach Hundley.

The Tigers have recently added Olivia Cochran to the team, a transfer from Hardaway who has been dominate on the boards for Carver. A perfect match up with Janya Love-Hill at point guard whose focus this summer was to improve on offense.

“I think I worked more on being a true point guard not just being one type of point guard or shooting guard or I want to be all around and play all around,” says Carver junior point guard Janya Love-Hill.

For now it’s off for the holidays and back to work Thursday.
