Cougars Look to Stay Perfect in PBC Play


Off a big win on Sunday, the Columbus State University men’s basketball team heads to Francis Marion on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Florence, S.C.

Columbus State (2-3, 2-0 PBC) grinded out a 70-67 victory over No. 21 UNC Pembroke on Sunday. JaCori Payne led all scorers with 24 points, while Marcus Dixon went for 15 points and 18 rebounds.

The two programs have met 42 previous times with Columbus State holding a 27-15 lead in the all-time series.

Francis Marion scored 52 points in the first half on its way to a 99-84 win over the Cougars last January in Florence. John Lambert led the Cougars in scoring with 19 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3.

Francis Marion (7-0, 2-0) is perfect through its first seven games this season and one of just 11 Division II teams still undefeated.

The Patriots took down Georgia Southwestern 87-67 on Sunday for its second PBC win of the season.

Detrek Browning moved into second place on the FMU all-time scoring list on Sunday with 1,790 career points.

Browning is leading the conference in scoring at 24.4 points per game, four points ahead of JaCori Payne in second.

After starting the season 0-3, the Cougars earned their second straight win on Sunday and stayed perfect in conference play.

CSU is one of just four PBC teams still without a loss in league play.

Marcus Dixon grabbed a season-best 18 rebounds on Sunday and is now leading the Peach Belt at 11.5 per game.

Through five games, JaCori Payne is shooting a career-best 51.4 percent from the field and 43.3 percent from the 3-point line.
