Grinch steals Christmas from Abused Children
Thieves steal $5000 in donations from Russell County Child Advocacy Center
This suspect can best be described as a real life Grinch who stole the children’s red chairs, their coolers for treats and even their Christmas tree.
“Even paint when we painted the inside of the Center last year to do touch ups and all of our paint supplies so it’s discouraging”, said Director Lynn Hammock.
Surveillance video from the Russell County Child Advocacy Center shows a dark older model SUV perhaps a Ford Explorer or Expedition.
The storage sheds are not visible from the road so it could be someone familiar with the property and they were determined not to leave anything behind.
“And then actually broke in and made a second trip to the Center to pick up another load which had a combination of all of our fundraising and event items which together was probably around five thousand dollars.”
The Center serves as a welcome respite during difficult times for children. The theft she says couldn’t have come at a worse time.
“For those kids that have lost their innocence, it’s important for us to give some of that childhood back and that is what part of that Christmas celebration is about is letting them be kids when they come in to see us”.
The response to the theft here at the Child Advocacy Center has been so overwhelming and just like that the Dr. Seuss classic Christmas will come anyway for those kids who really need it.
