Fort Mitchell Man Charged with Murder in Opelika Fatal Car Crash

Opelika police have arrested a Fort Mitchell man for murder in a traffic accident that killed one person.

It happened on September 13 around 3:30 p.m. on N. Park Dr. and Andrews Rd. in Opelika.

According to police, 38-year-old Travis Ford was speeding and hit April Billingsley, of Lanett, killing her.

Ford turned himself in to Opelika Police Monday morning.

“For us, it’s a good feeling. We’ve worked hard, our traffic homicide investigation guys assigned to the case, they’ve been working every day since the accident to try to bring justice to the victim’s family and to try to figure out what happened in this case and accident. We were able to make a case and now it will go forward from here in the legal process,” said Cpt. Bobby Kilgore with the Opelika Police Department.
