Oral HPV Infections More Common Among U-S Men

Throat cancers increase in men in the U-S.

In Your Health Minute, despite a rise in throat cancers caused by  HPV, the overall risk is still very low.

Government data shows HPV related throat cancers have increased since the 1980’s, especially among men.

But, a new study from Johns Hopkins University found the lifetime risk of these cancers is less than one percent.

Researchers say mass screenings for oral HPV are not recommended because many infections clear up on their own.
