FL has First Local Zika Case of 2017

FLORIDA RECORDS ITS FIRST LOCALLY TRANSMITTED ZIKA CASE IN 2017

(CNN) – A Manatee County, Florida resident has the Zika virus.

The Florida Department of Health says a person started feeling symptoms associated with Zika after returning from a trip to Cuba with their partner.

Officials say the person acquired Zika while in Cuba, but was bitten by a mosquito in or around their home in Manatee, and that mosquito then bit and transmitted Zika to their partner.

After the case was reported; the Mosquito Control District and a helicopter sprayed the area.

Health officials say that there is no evidence of an ongoing active Zika transmission.
