Scholar Athlete: Springwood Cross Country, Johnathan Caldwell
Johnathan Caldwell stands out as a student athlete at Springwood School not by his words but by his actions. His cross country coach, Katie Crumbley, describes him as quiet, but also an incredible young man. He also puts a lot of the pressure on himself being the captain.
“You know the seniors and the upperclassmen need to set an example for them stuff like that so I try to,” says Springwood senior cross country runner Johnathan Caldwell.
He has set a high standard finishing 4th in state and MVP last year. Aside from practice, and competing in meets, Johnathan is taking AP classes and participating in robotics everyday after school.
“It can be a little over whelming like I have a job too so I’m busy most of the time,” says Caldwell.
For Johnathan he enjoys most of his time on the ground as a runner but one of his biggest goals in life is actually to take him to space.
“I’d love to be an astronaut one day I think that’d be awesome but I don’t know the only goal I’m really focused on right now is getting to the academy and trying to be a pilot,” says Caldwell.
His roots run deep in the military growing up hearing about his dad who served. If he can he’d like to continue competing on a cross country team at the Air Force Academy where he has found most of his enjoyment in high school.
“I think my favorite part about it is spending time with the team they are a bunch of good guys and we have a lot of fun,” says Caldwell.
Johnathan has a 3.8795 GPA and plans on studying aeronautical engineering in college. Congradulations to Springwood School’s Johnathan Caldwell this weeks scholar athlete.
