Red Sox Foundation Brings a First to Fenway Park
AMERICAS OLDEST BALLPARK SEES IT'S FIRST MARATHON FOR CHARITY
Fenway Park has seen its share of runs over the years, but none quite like this.
The first ever Fenway Park marathon took place on Friday afternoon along the warning track of America’s oldest ballpark.
Fifty runners ran 116 laps around Boston’s storied stadium to cover the 26.2 miles.
Each runner was required to raise a minimum of $5,000 to benefit the Red Sox Foundation with all proceeds going towards improving health and recreation for New England children.
So far, participants have raised about $250,000.
The race is also the first marathon race run entirely within the confines of a Major League baseball park.
