Northside Softball Eying Another State Championship Appearance
PATRIOTS EAGER TO AVENGE LOSS IN LAST YEAR'S TITLE GAME AND WIN GHSA 4A CHAMPIONSHIP
For the Northside softball team, their last game of the 2016 season was a hard pill to swallow.
After making it to the finals of the GHSA 4A state tournament, the Patriots lost in the championship series, falling short of a state title.
Nine months later, the Patriots are back on their practice field and have their eyes on redemption.
Expectations are high for this squad as they return the majority of their players, in fact they only graduated three girls.
This year, they only have two seniors on the team which means the experience will keep on improving.
While ending a season like they did in 2016 is never easy, they say it also gives them a hunger to finish.
“We’re really motivated this year because that loss was really bad for us” said Northside junior shortstop Gabi Apiag. “So we are excited to get back on the field and compete for another State Championship.”
“As a senior, I’ve been here for four years and I’ve seen this program excel and and just blossom into a great program,” said Northside senior pitcher Hannah George. “So hopefully this year I can end the season with a piece of cake.”
Before last season Northside hadn’t made it to the title game since 2009.
