Carver’s Calvin Arnold Ready to Help Carver Reach the Top

ARNOLD BECOMES CARVER'S THIRD HEAD COACH IN AS MANY YEARS

As the Carver High Tigers get ready for the upcoming season, they’ll be doing so under another new head coach.

Calvin Arnold will be calling the shots this Fall as he looks to help bring Carver back to the top.

Arnold said, “We always talk about family first and that’s what we believe in and that’s what we’re trying to be.”

A new family with their third head coach in as many years.

Joe Kegler led the program in 2015, Dre’mail King took over in 2016 and now Arnold is calling the plays in 2017.

But while there may be a different head coach, the expectations are the same.

“Our main number one goal is to win the region and move forward in the playoffs,” Arnold said.

The Tigers are coming off a 7-5 season that included a loss in the second round of the GHSA playoffs.

They need to keep climbing and one thing that will help is some of the seniority coming back on the defensive line and on the offense.

“It helps a whole lot because you know the guys can make all the checks, they know what to look for, and they can also be a coach on the field,” said Arnold.

Arnold isn’t a stranger to Carver or to this team either, serving as Defensive Coordinator last season. Before then, he was Head Coach at Carver’s rival, Spencer, from 2012-2014.

He’s trying to create a winning atmosphere at Carver and has surrounded himself with others who have the same goal.

“I brought some guys back who wanted to be back and it’s helped out,” he said. “I have a few new guys who have a lot of passion about football.”

Because passion is what you need to have and the players have enjoyed seeing the passion Arnold brings to all units on the team.

“It’s really nice to have him on both sides of the ball and just have that kind of coach and leadership everywhere on the field,” said senior quarterback Xaiyhir Jacobs.

“He knows all the plays on defense so for him to be a Head Coach and coach the offense is weird but he knows what he’s doing and we re just rolling with it,” added senior running back Jacobi Cunningham.

Carver opens the regular season on Friday, August 18th at Harris County.
