Dakota Pipeline had Minor Spill in April

DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE SUFFERED A MINOR OIL SPILL IN APRIL

(CNN) – The Dakota access pipeline isn’t fully open for business, but it’s already suffered a minor oil spill.

Early last month the controversial pipeline leaked roughly 84 gallons of crude oil in South Dakota.

The spill occurred at a rural pump station.

Local authorities said it didn’t pose a threat to the public’s drinking water.

An environmental scientist at South Dakota’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources said the incident was caused by a mechanical failure.

He called the spill “relatively small” and said such spills are not uncommon.
