Gators Look to Add to Legacy, Win Another Baseball Title

It’s Championship week for Glenwood as the Gators look to repeat as AISA-AAA Champions.

The Gators have won 21 state championships and can make it 22 with a win over Pike Liberal Arts in the state title series.

It’s been a dominating season for the Gators, recording 10 shutout wins.

The postseason has been a challenge as each of their playoff series has gone the complete three games. That’s not a bad thing though as it only helps them in the long run.

“We thought maybe coming in we’d sweep but we actually got to three game series both times last year before the state playoffs and then we swept in the state championship,” said pitcher Daniel Holley. “So I mean I guess it could help, more experience I guess this year.”

“With the experience having a three game series you know that game number one is not the be all end all,” head coach Tim Fanning said.  “You have to win two of them, it doesn’t matter which two they are.”

The Gators are no strangers to winning but also say the nerves of playing in such an important series never goes away.

“I still have butterflies, I still get nervous,” Fanning said. “For me as a coach, you want these kids to realize their dreams and them not regret a chance they may have had to build their legacy on this program.”

Glenwood and Pike Liberal Arts will kick things off Wednesday, May 10th at Paterson Field in Montgomery.

A third game if needed will be played on Thursday.
