Auditor Compares Democratic Representative to KKK in Post
Alabama auditor compares Congresswomen wearing white to KKK members.
Montgomery, AL (WSFA) – Many prominent Democratic women wore white to president Trump’s speech in front of Congress on Tuesday night.
They did it to honor womens voting rights.
White dresses have symbolized the womens suffrage movement for more than 100 years.
But Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler saw a connection to another group that wears white; the Ku Klux Klan.
He posted a picture of Democratic Congress women in white next to an image of KKK members.
A caption read “now appearing without hoods” and called the women “Nancy Pelosi and the Klannettes.”
African-American Congresswoman Terri Sewell from Alabama was among the group pictured.
She demanded an apology and said voters should hold Ziegler accountable.
He says the pictures looked alike and his criticism is fair.
Ziegler explain, “And it’s legitimate criticism of the Democrat protest against President Trump during the State of the Union address. That was very unusual and they opened up this issue. Since an Alabama Congressman chose to wear the white outfit and join in the protest against President Trump, then she is fair game to questioning or criticism about that protest.”
Ziegler has removed the post.
He says he did it because he didn’t want it to be a distraction from other issues he is working on.
He also said he has never met Representative Sewell, but would like to.
