Hosted by Opelika Chamber of Commerce

Alabama students will soon be in the midst of new initiatives to improve academic performance. The new Alabama Superintendent of Education, Michael Sentence spoke with community members and educators on Thursday morning to share his plans for the state.

Raising achievement is at the top of his list and his plans for improving education include programs that worked in Massachusetts, where he last worked. He aims to improve the relationship between Public and Charter schools in addition to developing stronger educators. Sentance said, “Well I think that we have to do a great deal of work to make sure that the teachers are fully prepared to teach the content that’s expected. We want world class schools here, and in order to do that, we have to teach world class curriculum.”
