Columbus Jr Cottonmouths wrap up regular season, prep for playoffs

It’s a chance for high school students to play hockey competitively.

The Columbus Junior Cottonmouths is a team comprised of athletes from the greater Chattahoochee Valley area who play regular season games and vie for a state championship.

The team plays in the Georgia Student Hockey League. The league is made up of 11 teams from all over the state. With a 7-5-3 record as of Sunday night, the Junior Cottonmouths have secured a spot in the playoffs as they look to build off their past success.

“For them to have the kind of success that they have, from the outside looking in it doesn’t seem like much but when you dissect it, look in to the teams that we’re playing, who we’re playing against and what level those kids play at as well, it’s quite an accomplishment,” said coach Barney Slayton.

The playoffs begin next week. All games are played in the Atlanta area.
