Opelika’s Weldrin Ford finally gets moment, signs football scholarship

It was a long time coming for Opelika football player Weldrin Ford.

The all-state running back suffered a PCL tear back in 2014 that not just required surgery, but forced him to miss part of his sophomore and all of his junior year on the football field.

Because he missed so much time on the field, Ford’s recruitment was pretty slow. He waited though and it finally paid off. Ford finally got his first couple of offers a few weeks ago and signed with Shorter University on Thursday morning.

“Knowing that all my hard work is finally paying off and I know if I keep God first he’ll have a great plan for me,” Ford said.

This past season, Ford ran for nearly 1,800 yards and scored 27 touchdowns as the Bulldogs made a trip to the AHSAA 6A Championship game.
