Couple sentenced for locking child in basement

Couple who locked son in basement for 18 months each sentenced to 20 years in prison, 10 years probation.

Lawrenceville, GA (CNN) – A judge sentenced a Georgia couple Monday for keeping their oldest son in a basement room for 18 months.

They also did not seek medical care for another son for a cancerous tumor.

Recardo Wimbush, a former Georgia Tech linebacker, and his wife Therian each got 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years of probation.

They were each convicted Friday on three counts of second-degree child cruelty.

The couple is also barred from contacting the two children who were abused until they are each 21 years old.

They will be allowed to see their other eight kids in supervised visits, but only if the contact is initiated by the children.
