Columbus Lions leaving AIF following 2016 season

The 2016 AIF champion Columbus Lions have announced they will not return to the league in 2017.  Although the Lions are contractually bound to the AIF though the middle of July, the team felt it was important to inform the league and its member teams of their intended departure.

The Lions wish to thank John Morris and the rest of the AIF for their efforts during the 2016 season and wish them the best of luck in the future.

A spokesman for the Lions said, “We just believe there is a better fit for us elsewhere.  We are looking for a competitive league with established rivalries that our fans will enjoy.”

The Lions would also like to thank their “9th Man Nation” fan base for all of their support for the last 10 seasons, especially during the recent 2016 championship season.

The Columbus Lions have now won three championships in three different leagues: the SIFL, the PIFL and the AIF.
