Military to join wildfire fight
Chelan, WA (NBC News) Close to 3,000 people remain under a wildfire evacuation order near Chelan, Washington.
The Chelan Complex fire has consumed at least 65,000 acres and destroyed dozens of homes. It remains only 30 percent contained.
200 military personnel will be joining the fight against the dozens of wildfires currently burning across the western United States.
They will be trained on Wednesday, then sent to various fires across the west.
"There is a tremendous shortage of resources given all of the fires that you are trying to battle," says Bill Queen of the Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team.
With so many fires burning, there is no end in sight as the region moves in to peak wildfire season.
"If we get to the point where we have a Santa Ana driven fire, we are going to be looking at some real scary conditions," warns Captain Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department.
