Scholar Athlete: Jack Nix
Jack Nix has always loved the sport of baseball.
“It’s fun to learn the game really and know each year how the game progresses and how it moves along.”
From little league, to coaching his little brother’s team, to making the Blue Devils varsity squad as a back-up catcher.. a position that’s harder than it looks.
“It’s really hard with your reaction time with the pitch, that’s one of the hardest parts,” Nix said. “And your legs are always sore- that’s just goes with it.”
But Nix says it’s all worth it to be a part of a team that has such a strong tradition.
“It’s great. It really is,” he said. “It’s just great to be a part of a team and cheering on your friends. It’s fun just to be out here.”
It’s a team that’s had his back both on and off the field. Nix holds a 4.27 GPA thanks to a lot of studying for seven AP classes. He’s also involved in the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and Model UN.
“It’s a tough schedule, but it’s all worth it in the end, I guess,” he said.
Because Nix will soon be hitting the books in college and will continue to wear blue and orange as a student attending the University of Florida. He’s planning on double majoring in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering: a major he says will require one big thing.
“A lot of good math skills, honestly,” he said.
