RNC makes move to control pres debates

Posted: Updated:
Leaders in the Republican party want more control over how the party picks its 2016 presidential candidate.

This week, the Republican National Committee is expected to approve a new penalty that will punish candidates who take part in primary debates not sanctioned by the party.

The National Party is looking to have tighter control over the nominating process after the 2012 election; when party leaders watched a nasty, drawn-out primary that included 20 major debates.

The penalty is expected to be approved by the full RNC on Friday.
