Company Provides Capability to Assist Network Equipment Manufacturers Stay Ahead of Data Growth Curve

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Napatech (OSE: NAPA), the world's leading supplier of network analysis adapters, today announced that it has achieved 320 Gbps throughput with zero packet loss, ushering in a new era of network analysis. This accomplishment was made possible by cutting-edge network adapter technology from Napatech and Intel-based servers. This new capability will help network equipment manufacturers stay ahead of the data growth curve with higher throughput for multi-port appliance solutions.

Demonstration Highlights:

  • 320 Gbps non-blocking packet capture and analysis for any packet size.
  • Leaves 80 percent of the total CPU resources for the analysis application.
  • The demonstration was conducted using the following configuration:
    • Intel Sandy Bridge-based quad socket server
    • 8 Napatech PCI-SIG® compliant NT40E3-4-PTP network analysis adapters
    • 32 ports of 10 Gbps traffic generated and captured using a packet capture application
  • Napatech will debut the 320 Gbps demo at Cisco Live in San Francisco from May 18-22.

Peter Ekner, vice president of product management, Napatech, said:

"In December of 2012 we were able to demonstrate 100 Gbps throughput using a Dell server. It is an extraordinary achievement that we have been able to make this leap in performance to 320 Gbps. This demonstration removes any doubt about the viability of commercial off-the-shelf servers as a high performance platform for packet capture and analysis. We anticipate this will encourage more network equipment manufacturers to adopt the strategy of standardizing on Napatech to accelerate their time-to-market and reduce risk."
