iPhone bug causing emails to be vulnerable

Posted: Updated:
(CNN) - The latest versions Apple's iOS 7 software fails to encrypt email attachments, leaving the user vulnerable to hackers.

That's according to German security expert Andreas Kurtz.

He tested for the flaw in an iPhone 4, iPhone 5's and iPad 2.

Kurtz was able to access email attachments on a locked device, just by plugging it into a computer and using some passcode-bypassing software.

He first reported the findings on his personal blog on April 23.

Kurtz said he reached out to Apple and the company told him it was already aware of the problem, but did not say when it would be fixed.

Apple did not immediately respond to request for comment.
