A Smiths Station man faces numerous charges related to operating a motor vehicle theft facility.

It all started when an older model Chevrolet pick-up truck was stolen from Opelika High School and several other vehicles were broken into back in February. A suspect vehicle was captured on video which was subsequently forwarded to the local news media. With the assistance of the community, the Opelika Police Department Detective Division received a tip that led to a suspect living in the Smiths Station, Alabama community.

The suspect in the case, identified as Henry Palmer, age 29 of Smiths, Alabama, was arrested on 3/10/2014 and charged with two counts of Receiving Stolen Property, as well as Operating a Motor Vehicle Theft Facility, and Removing an Identification Number from a Motor Vehicle Component. He is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center.

Detectives responded to a residence and located a large amount of motor vehicle parts. A search warrant was obtained by the Opelika Police Department and with the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff's Office the search warrant was executed. Numerous stolen items were recovered from the property to include items stolen from two recently stolen trucks in Opelika. The National Insurance Crime Bureau assisted with the identification of the stolen property.

The case remains under investigation.
