(CNN) - A World War II veteran popularized by the "Band of Brothers" miniseries has died.
William Guarnere was rushed to a hospital, early Saturday morning.
His family says the 90-year-old suffered a ruptured aneurism and died that night.
During the war, Guarnere lost a leg trying to save a friend on the battlefield.
He was nicknamed "Wild Bill."
Guarnere was portrayed by actor Frank John Hughes in the HBO miniseries, "Band of Brothers," which was based on a book by Stephen Ambrose.
Guarnere's family is planning a funeral for this week in Philadelphia, where he was born and lived most of his life.
